Escaping Earth

Board Game

Escaping Earth is a boardgames designed as a part of my Senior Capstone, Takeoff, a visual Anthology of Our Impending Exodus from Earth.

Escaping Earth is a board-game that explores the world’s first migration off Earth, due to impending threats such as nuclear war, over population, incoming asteroids and climate change.

Migration has allowed mankind to expand throughout all the reaches of the Earth. Having started in Africa, humans migrated to the Middle East, Asia, North America, South America and expanded further, settling all around the planet and making those places their homes. Settlements became towns, cities and countries, and migration between them has forever continued and will always be part of the human experience.  So now that we have populated the whole world, where should be move toward next?  Today, many scientists look to the stars with plans of migrating off planet Earth. Studies propose many forms of “takeoff,” such as habitation in a space station, establishing new outposts and/or settlements on other planets.  Mankind has already visited the Moon and has Mars in its sights. With many proponents to the idea of migrating to outer space, accessible space travel and eventual colonization, will become a reality. The first steps of human migration to space has already been taken and eventually mankind will fulfill its very own galactic manifest destiny.  I’m stepping into takeoff by designing the first campaign to support migration off Earth.
